MENTAL ILLNESS CASES GETTING WORRIED IN MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR: About 30 percent of the population of the people in this country suffer from a mental illness problem with the majority of women at high risk of symptoms may be.

Mental disorders will cause women to easily cope with the depression that drives them to suicide.

Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya (UM), Dr Ng Chong Guan, said the increase in mental illness among the country's population to double in 10 years.

He said, based on the ratio, found one in three people facing mental health problems and this figure is growing concern over the years.

The number of psychiatrists less

"One contributing factor is a mental disorder symptoms of depression by 40 percent of the local population suffers from the disease during their lifetime relevant.

"In fact, women are the highest contributor to mental illness or mental symptoms than men," he said.

Dr Ng said although the number of mental patients has increased, but psychiatrists are still low.

Among the causes of mental illness is associated with a family history of inherited mental disorders and stress.

"An estimated 40 per cent of mental patients due to symptoms of schizophrenia so often happens attempted suicide.

"Currently, 380 psychiatrists in the country. The country needs more than 3,000 doctors trained in the field to meet the needs of over 30 million people," he said.

He said this during a workshop entitled First Aid and First Aid Mental Health organized by Pfizer Malaysia.

Dr Ng said the assistance of psychiatrists and mental health professionals to treat patients and help traditional healers also help treat patients.

There was delirium of mind

Psychiatrists and senior lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Dr Michael Ang Jin Kiat, said the three main symptoms of mental disorder is a psychiatric illness, severe depression and confusion of mind.

They are talking to ourself, see, hear, feel something that does not actually exist or are hallucinating, opinions or beliefs wrong or misleading or delusions are vulnerable to mental illness.
